Okay, so I am a hypocrite! As the title indicates, I dislike blogging or rather the act of writing articles. However Captain Obvious, I am writing and posting content in the hope that my viewers can get a small view into my personality and see value in my services. The marketing industry insists that to find prospective customers, one must blog about industry standards, design techniques and various marketing mumbo-jumbo to prove your validity as an expert. I say, “BULL-lone-EEE”! If I can’t convey to you my expertise or validate my skills within the contents of previous work or available services on my business site, I question the customer being my ideal client.
That sounds kind of arrogant and elitist, doesn’t it? Well here is the thing, the internet is packed with all the content you could fathom to educate yourself about web design and basic marketing. Most of the info is legitimate but the repetition of information is tremendous. Thus the reason why I hate writing endless posts about information that is easily accessible with a simple search. Now don’t get me wrong about blogging, I read multiple articles a day from various sources. I don’t think the information vehicle of blogging is passe. I detest wasting my time regurgitating information that 1000 other web designers have posted about.
This practice doesn’t make me different, it makes me a conformist. If you know me at all, you would know that I am NOT a conformist in any way. My husband will tell you that no one can force me to do anything until I am ready. However, I have fought the industry peer pressure of posting articles on my site in the hope of attracting customers. Even as I write this, I feel like a toddler in need of a good throw down tantrum. I HATE it!
What is the alternative? or is there an alternative? purist would say “no” of course. I am going to blaze a new trail whether it works or not. I want you to like ME and have faith in my skills because of the previous work I have done. Where has the human connection gone? I love geeking out about my industry but a blog post is a one way conversation. Yuck! Our society has lost the human connection with all the phones and tablets. I am not judging because I have 1 phone, 2 tablets, a laptop and desktop computer. Those are only mine. I want to convey my information differently.
So I quit! I will no longer write boring posts about the web design industry. If I feel the need to write anything, it will be something funny about my business or a cool new trend or idea. I might even post videos, who knows. Until next time, adieu!
