Fact: I am not a patient person
.Fact: I am not a procrastinator.
These two traits rub each other like sandpaper on skin, a little counter-productive. However I have a master of patience in my midst. My husband can let an idea ruminate, germinate and yes, procrastinate. I am a get in and get it done girl. This does not always serve me well in business, especially a creative business.
A year ago, I painted the interior walls of our house. Taking my husband’s advice, I bought color paint samples and painted a patch on the wall to “live” with the color for a while. Well folks, I lived with 12 different colors for about 18 months. I hated all the colors and my dining room wall looked like a poorly done patchwork quilt. It became quite the joke with family and friends about which color I would choose or if I would ever chose a color but just keep adding more colored squares. I finally chose a light gray. Not a blue gray or a taupe gray but light gray. I know this because it took 18 MONTHS to find this bugger. While this was a lesson in having patience to find the best result, it was very frustrating because I wanted to rush in and slap paint on the wall to get this project done.
I am practicing taking time to letting the creative process happen in my business. But sometimes letting that process happen takes longer than I would like or have patience for. Most of my client’s sites, I really like the end result. So as you can guess, the creative process usually works in a timely fashion. But I have been struggling with my own site design. You got it…..I am not thrilled with my business site. The one brand platform, in which I need to convey my brand and style the most, was a mess in my mind’s eye.
Yes, I have just revealed the underbelly of my weakness. While I am not trying to rush the process, I was getting frustrated with my lack of inspiration. I want my brand to reflect a clean, simple, effective style but instill confidence in potential clients. Simple should be easy, right? Not for this girl, I have tweaked and fussed for about 4 months.
With Google and Pinterest as my friend, the heavens opened up to let a creative breakthrough happen. I mixed a little of the old design with some new. Original, right? Well, I liked some of the old but didn’t feel it flowed well. This is hard to admit, my husband was right. Not rushing the process has led to the best end result.
So……Voila! Pixel Foundry HQ. site redesign. DONE……for now! [Update: Until, I decided to change business names and colors so not….just kidding!]
[Update 3.0, I can’t leave something alone. Just updated website to the current version. Oh to be a restless creative!]
